aboutartist statement
In my work I am free to shed light and shadow as I see fit. I seek absence, balance and discrepancy. And I contemplate. I thrive on disobedience, do not take things for granted, do not listen to many. But there is no purpose in art, and that is its strength. In contrast to everything that "needs to be", art does not need to be anything. In there, I have found a vast freedom to create whatever I want. biography
Marianne De Roo is a Belgian artist. She has always been drawing and while doing this, she has created her own version of the real world. In her adulthood she decides to go to the Art Academy in order to learn the techniques behind drawing and painting. She obtains her degree in drawing and subsequently her degree in painting. Since then, she has established herself as a full-time artist. She is drawn to the intricate and subtle art of portraiture. At the same time, her interest in botanical elements and vegetation grows. She has an innate attraction to settings and how a certain emptiness can be brought into an image. This contrasts with the art of portraiture. Those two main arteries feed her work. exhibitions
